Check your vehicle inspection readiness BEFORE you go to the Inspection Station. Now it’s easy to turn your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch into a tool to view readiness or decode the CHECK ENGINE light. Simply download the readyLINK App from the App Store and you’re ready to go!

An emissions test consists of three parts:

1. An inspector checks to see if the MIL light comes on when the key is turned on.
2. A scanner similar to the GL1 is plugged into the vehicle and the system is checked for monitor readiness. If more than the allowed number of monitors are not ready (usually 1 or 2), the vehicle is failed and asked to come back after it has been driven. The scanner also checks for any fault codes that may be present. Codes = fail.
3. As a final system check, the scanner is used to command the MIL lamp on to verify it is taking commands from the onboard computer.
